Guildhouse is a new gamer lounge in San Jose is known as a “spiritual successor” to the former AFKgg Gamer Lounge. The new lounge will be located in downtown San Jose’s arts district, covering almost 18,000 square feet of land. Guildhouse gaming lounge will have a Forager Tasting Room and Eatery, food hall, and event space.

“It’s almost a do-over, but it’s much bigger and better this time. For the gaming community, I felt like I owed the community this experience. I had promised them with AFKgg,” Kevin Wick, a co-owner of the company behind AFKgg and the sole owner of Guildhouse, said in a statement.

Wick is working with his business partner on this project. Before its opening, he did not share much information about the design and programming details for Guildhouse. But promised to share more about the project in the coming weeks.

As per Nick Goddard, a senior vice president at brokerage firm Colliers International, the new lease at 420 S, First St. called out the most prominent retail deals in the South Bay during Covid times. He marked them as a good sign for San Jose.

“The tailwind that downtown San Jose had continued, and I don’t think I’m going out on a limb to say that, from a real estate perspective, downtown San Jose will outperform the greater market during the great return,” Nick said in a statement.

Guildhouse is soon going to become the lounge for San Jose gamers. Meanwhile, the restaurant business is also expanding downtown, where they aim to stay for the long haul. “It’s a business bet—we are betting on the future, that five years from now, 10 years from now, downtown [San Jose] is going to look different, it’s going to feel different, and moving our businesses into downtown now will be a good bet,” Carlos Carriera, a local restaurant owner, said in a recent interview.

“As more business people are interested in starting their business downtown, it proves that the area has more power to persevere through the economic setback than it has in past downturns,” Goddard said. “Historically, it has always been that if the market got a cold, then downtown would get the bubonic plague,” he said. “I don’t think anyone thinks that’s going to repeat itself.” And with the huge tech community in San Jose, the gamer lounge is a natural evolution in the local community.

This unique gamer lounge in San Jose is truly bringing a cool factor to the Silicon Valley, which traditionally isn’t the most exciting place in terms of things for 18-46 year olds to do. Besides work in tech. According to sources Wick was seen working on some business proposals with Forager, which hosts weddings and corporate events. With Forager, Wick wants to have a game-filled location.

Forager has yet to give its statement, but Wick is hopeful that if this partnership works out and is mutually beneficial, he’d be open to having Forager continue to book events in the space.

Guildhouse is located at: 420 1st Street San Jose, CA 95113
