The Chinese zodiac is on a 12-year cycle, each year represented by an animal. 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit. Based on astronomical forecasting, optimism, calmness, and peace will generally prevail and characterize the year. To honor the occasion, here are twelve rabbits from movies, TV, cartoons, comics, and music – in no particular order – that you may find famous.

Year of the Bunny

1. Bugs Bunny from Looney Tunes

Among the many popular Warner Bros. cartoon characters, Bugs Bunny is the most popular and most enduring character in Looney Toons and Merrie Melodies. An anthropomorphic gray-colored bunny, Bugs earned his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1985 and is the leader of the Bugs Bunny Bunch, a fictional group of famous cartoon characters. He has enjoyed a long run in television and film since his debut in 1938 and is the ninth most depicted American animation in the Disney theme parks.

2. Lola Bunny

Yet another Warner Bros. character, Lola Bunny, debuted as Bugs’ adventurous cousin in 1958. Initially appearing as Honey Bunny in the Bugs Bunny’s Album comic book, the female rabbit would later play Bugs’ love interest in the animated movie starring Michael Jordan. She was popular enough to recur in Looney Tunes shorts, TV series, and video games like Bugs Bunny’s Birthday Ball.

3. Thumper from Bambi

Regarding cuteness, Thumper is a darn adorable rabbit character in the Disney universe. Popularized by Thumper’s mother’s rule that “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all,” the jungle green or brown-colored rabbit with an orange nose became known for thumping his left hind foot. And metaphorical usage of Bambi and Thumper in the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever (1971) as a reference to cuddly pets expresses the female bodyguards’ role to be as close to their Secret Service agent as possible.

4. Judy Hopps

A smooth blend of childlike innocence and mature determination proves Judy Hopps’ greatest asset in Disney’s Zootopia. From her humble roots as a carrot farmer to the first steps into policing the animal metropolis of Zootopia, the eager rookie cop remains dedicated to her goal of protecting the city. Along the way, however, she becomes friends with an optimistic con artist fox called Nick Wilde and learns about herself and how far she is willing to go to achieve prey-supremacist justice.

5. The Playboy Bunny

Extended from a lifestyle brand and salacious publication, the Playboy Clubs represent the glamor and playfulness of models pursuing a lifestyle of hedonism and sensuality. Hugh Hefner’s Playboy magazine established the bunny as the preeminent image of the wild, alluring female. The real-life Playboy Bunny costumes were made short and skimpy to appeal to a heterosexual male audience. As such, their outfits include a bow tie, cuffs, collar, bunny ears, and a fluffy white tail.

6. Bad Bunny

Puerto Rican rapper and singer Benito Ocasio, known professionally as Bad Bunny, is a rising star in the Latin trap scene. Following his 2017 breakthrough hit, “Soy Peor,” Bad Bunny’s song earned the number 19 spot on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. The four times Latin Grammy Awards winner got the idea for his current stage moniker after he was forced to wear a bunny outfit when he was young.
