Buck Angel

Buck Angel, born June 5, 1962, in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, is an American sex educator, entrepreneur, and transgender man who spent the earlier part of his career as an adult film actor and producer. In 2007, he became the first — and to date only — trans man to win the AVN Award for Transsexual Performer of the Year. Angel founded his own production company, Buck Angel Entertainment, and has since shifted his focus primarily to sex education, public speaking, and LGBTQ advocacy.

Buck Angel began working as a model in his late teens and twenties before beginning his medical gender transition around age 28. In 2005, he appeared in Titan Media’s “Cirque Noir,” becoming the first trans man featured in an all-male film by a studio specializing in gay pornography. That same year, he appeared in “Allanah Starr’s Big Boob Adventures,” which featured what was described as the first filmed sex scene between a trans woman and a trans man and earned an AVN nomination for Most Outrageous Sex Scene.

His breakthrough recognition came in 2007, when he won the AVN Award for Transsexual Performer of the Year, becoming the first trans man to receive the honor. Between 2010 and 2015, he produced the four-part series “Sexing the Transman XXX,” which won Most Tantalizing Trans Film at the 2012 Feminist Porn Awards.

Buck Angel’s early career centered on studio-produced adult film work through his own company, Buck Angel Entertainment, and collaborations with studios like Titan Media. Since the mid-2010s, however, his content output has shifted decisively toward education and advocacy. In 2015, he created “Trantastic Storytelling,” a platform for trans people to share their life stories for educational purposes. Since 2022, he has produced weekly YouTube videos and hosted a Wednesday livestream alongside producer Seth Carlson.

He also became a contributor to “The Feminist Porn Book” in 2012 and has toured with a presentation titled “Bucking the System,” addressing body image and LGBTQ family acceptance.

Buck Angel’s Activism and Advocacy

Buck Angel served on the board of directors of the Woodhull Freedom Foundation from 2010 to 2016 and has spoken at events including Ideacity in Toronto and Stockholm Pride. In 2023, he participated in a panel for the Museum of Neon Art’s “Light in the Dark: Queer Narratives in Neon” exhibition. Since 2021, he has also drawn criticism from some members of the trans community for appearing on conservative and gender-critical media platforms, including Blaire White’s YouTube channel — a point of ongoing debate around his public advocacy work.
